An inclusive union movement

This Congress Forum is about building ‘An inclusive union movement’. The COVID-19 pandemic bluntly showed the inequalities in our economies and societies: those ones even more exposed to vulnerability because of the crisis (such as low-skilled workers, migrant workers, informal sector workers, women and youth) and those ones who were already affected by endemic discrimination and marginalization (such as workers of color, disabled, LGBTQ+, indigenous workers).

The depiction of current challenges on workers discrimination and exclusion will be followed by examples of trade unions in action to ensure progress towards a sustainable future of work for all. Trade union leaders from around the world will share their visions, plans and actual engagement to make trade unions a key actor for marginalized workers inclusion in the labour market and the wider society, as well as, to ensure that marginalized workers in all their diversity are rightfully represented in their ranks.

The forum discussion will be structured around these following areas of engagement:

  • Building representation of marginalized workers within trade unions;
  • Inclusion of migrant workers and refugees through collective bargaining;
  • Influencing legislation and initiating legal cases/favorable jurisprudence to ensure equality and inclusion.

Best practices will be identified for the whole movement to build upon.
